Caring for Our Neighbourhood – One Step at a Time

Valerie Walker   -

What a haul!

On November 6, we walked and gathered.

Our volunteers thought big thoughts while they walked and as they reflected on the day.

On getting out and doing things after 22 months of COVID-19 …

My family used to do SO many things on one Saturday!  It’s as though we forgot how!
No kidding. Stuff that used to seem like no big deal, feels daunting now.
Thank you to everyone who was able to help!

On setting aside time to tend a sidewalk …

“I love doing this! I walk these streets every day, but I don’t feel equipped to pick up the garbage that I see — especially used masks. This feels good.”
Right? A pair of gloves and a bag are like super powers! “Messy, disgusting, and germ-ridden? No problem.  I’ve got this!”

On stooping down to pick up after others …

I realized that I have spent a huge portion of my life bending down and picking up after others, and I never feel resentment in the task, which can be only because of God’s grace.

God blesses us when we humbly serve.

One lady, driving by, tooted her horn and waved, which made me feel great.

On the place, the event, the day, and the next time …

This morning felt good – the sun and fresh air, the work we accomplished and just being in our neighbourhood for a morning.

This was a great timing for a clean-up. There were a LOT of candy wrappers.

Guess what I found! An electric digger!

“Woof, woof!” Translation: Yum! Garbage.

Next time, we could let the neighbours know what we have planned. They might want to join in!
Yes! We like the way you think!
